About

The Açai berry comes from palm trees in the dense Amazon Rainforest in Brazil.

Because it is relatively new to the United States, the health benefits of açai are still being researched and discovered. At this early stage in the discovery of açai, scientists already know that açai contains antioxidant levels that are unmatched by any other food. It is for this reason that açai has been hailed as one of the world’s top superfoods.

Açai’s high levels of anthocyanins—a type of antioxidant—help counteract the damage that free radicals exact on the human body. Açai contains healthy omega-fats and essential fatty acids, which help to lower LDL, or bad, cholesterol levels and maintain HDL, or good, cholesterol levels.

Açai has the appearance of a blueberry or grape, and has long been held in high esteem in Brazil. Many native Brazilians consume some form of açai for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Açai can be consumed as a whole fruit, or mixed into juices and smoothies in juice, extract, puree, or freeze-dried form.
