Make It A Healthy Interview

Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008

Interviewing is not something that comes naturally to most people. It is hard to know when to brag about yourself and when to limit it. Also, everyone wants to be original when they are interviewed, but you do not want to come across as weird or awkward. One thing I have started to do the past few years is make a database of all the questions I have been asked and what my response was. This way I have in the back of my head a lot of answers to general interview questions you get everywhere like “What is your biggest weakness?”

Another thing I have learned is that sarcasm can ruin an interview; it should be avoided unless you make it very clear you are being sarcastic. You do not want to come across as cocky or have someone interpret your answer the wrong way. In addition, it is always better to be proud of your accomplishments and be happy to talk about them then to not talk about them for fear of being viewed as arrogant or an overachiever. An interview is the one place where you should always talk yourself up. Do not leave anything unsaid if you think it will help you get the job or whatever it may be. The people interviewing you want to know what you can do for them.
